Would You Believe Me If I Told You...The NCAA Made A Good Common Sense Rule Change for the NBA Draft?
[NCAA] In an effort to both provide students the chance to make more fully informed decisions and prepare themselves for a potential professional basketball career, the Division I Council on Wednesday adopted a proposal that, among other provisions, changes the date by which a student must remove his name from the NBA draft.
The change is effective immediately, and students can take advantage of the new process for the 2016 NBA draft.
“The rule is a good idea because it provides men’s basketball student-athletes the opportunity to test their dream of going beyond the stage of amateurism into the professional level without completely sacrificing their collegiate career, should they find they are not as prepared as they had hoped for the next level,” said Cody McDavis, a member of the Division I Men’s Basketball Oversight Committee.

I know, I know what you’re thinking – what the hell happened? Where am I? Did I get hammered drunk last night and knock myself unconscious and am currently living in some bizarro dream-state where up is down and down is up? Because this is not the NCAA we all know. The NCAA that hasn’t made a good solid common sense decision in…ever? Honestly I’m a little uncomfortable with it to be honest. I don’t like change. And if the NCAA starts making good moves what am I going to complain about then?
I guess if I were to nitpick I could ask…the fuck took so long? Seriously think about the rule before – once you declared your intention to enter the NBA Draft and talked to an agent, that was it. You were locked in. Couldn’t try out in front of NBA execs and scouts and front office guys and get feedback on your potential. God forbid you were on the fence about staying in school and playing for free or turning pro to have a career and make millions for your family – had to just make your best guess, and if it didn’t work out, go play in freaking Europe hoping to one day come back and make it in the league. How dumb is that? An organization so concerned with what’s best for “student-athletes” made them make the biggest decision of their life without any information. Wild.
So there we go, we’re back baby. Fuck the NCAA. Make your good decisions faster.
